On 25 April 2006 Inside Higher Ed reported:
The Global Country of World Peace plans to establish a new university campus in Arlington, Virginia, USA. The article reported that the Maharishi University of World Peace has 'lofty aims: 'total knowledge' for its students and bringing peace and a deeper understanding of life to those who govern the country.'
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
The new university, Maharishi University of World Peace, aims to have at least 2,000 students, all of whom will practise the Transcendental Meditation Programme together to create peace for the nation.
According to officials of the Global Country of World Peace, if the square root of one per cent of a nation's population practices the Transcendental Meditation Programme and its advanced programme of Yogic Flying together in one place, they will create a positive influence for the whole nation. The university's 2,000 students would exceed by approximately 300 the square root of one per cent of the population of the US.
The inauguration of the Maharishi University of World Peace was held on Wednesday, April 19th. It commenced with a grand procession of the Rajas of the Global Country of World Peace, wearing golden crowns and accompanied by the playing of bagpipes. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation Programme, addressed the conference via video connection.
According to the article, Maharishi University of World Peace in Arlington is to be a second campus of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa. Officials said that the new campus will offer a curriculum with greater emphasis on the Transcendental Meditation Programme than the curriculum of M.U.M in Fairfield. University spokesman Bob Roth said that the Global Country of World Peace will need to raise $600 million for the new campus.
President of the US Peace Government and head of the Maharishi University of World Peace in Arlington, John Hagelin, said the university's students will be 'professional peacemakers'. He said that the students will have a positive influence on the highly stressed capital city of Washington and its 'divisive government'.
Hagelin explained that the nation's capital city has an inauspicious location in relation to the river and this could contribute to the negativity within it. Hagelin said that 'water to the north or east is very auspicious', while water to the south or west 'afflicts residents'.
The Arlington location for Maharishi University of World Peace was chosen with the above principles in mind.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
