The first premiere of David Lynch's new documentary, 'Meditation, Creativity, Peace' in the Balkan region debuted to a packed theatre in downtown Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina recently.

According to Haris Bilalovic, a renowned TV and radio host at the Bosnian Public Broadcasting Company, the theatre, which normally seats 100, was completely full. 'There were no empty seats left. The organizers needed to bring in extra chairs, many of them.'

Mr Bilalovic, who has a university degree in psychology, learned Transcendental Meditation three years ago and has been involved with meditation ever since.

This past summer, he had a chance to speak to film director David Lynch and share his idea for premiering 'Meditation, Creativity, Peace' in Sarajevo. 'I expressed the idea that I think the atmosphere in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Sarajevo is so ready to organize the first regional premiere of the film in the cinema,' Mr Bilalovic said.

His feeling was correct, as attested to by the packed theatre.

In addition, Mr Bilalovic added, most of the theatregoers were the youth of Sarajevo, 'the students and young people that were fans of David Lynch's work, but then learned about TM.'

As a result of the film screening, the first group of young people inspired by the documentary just learned Transcendental Meditation. After seeing 'Meditation, Creativity, Peace' they called into the Transcendental Meditation centre in Sarajevo requesting more information and requesting to learn the uniquely effective meditation practice.

The success of the film in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not limited to the theatre. Mr Bilalovic and other Transcendental Meditation enthusiasts were able to arrange for the documentary to be broadcast in a popular time slot on the national television station of the country. This is the first time that the full-length film has been shown on national television in the entire European continent.
