On 11 October 2012 The Toronto Star reported: America is in far better shape than it knows. Late last week, the US reported a plunge in its national jobless rate for September, to 7.8 per cent from the previous month's 8.3 per cent. That's a near four-year low. And it's the first time the US jobless rate has slipped below 8 per cent in 44 months. The total number of Americans employed in September increased by 873,000, the biggest one-month jump in 29 years.
